This has included their innovative MicroGrid®, a precision expanded metal mesh that is found in composite-based aircrafts. Aircraft manufacturers are quickly realizing the benefits of using MicroGrid® precision expanded metals over other outdated processes. MicroGrid® is a key component in lightning strike protection. The homogenous design ensures uncompromised conductivity between strands. The material can also be formed into a variety of shapes and contours, providing a smooth surface for the end product. MicroGrid® has the ability to withstand a Zone 1A strike of 200,000 amps and it can be implemented as shielding in composite panels designed to protect sensitive electronics from EMI/RFI and ESD. Applications also include flow fields, gas diffusion layers and current collectors in battery, fuel cell and hydrogen/oxygen generation technologies.
