Damping of Voice Coil Actuators / Voice Coil Motors
Classification: Voice Coil Actuators and Motors
Incorporating Damping in a voice coil actuator can mitigate the effects of vibration in many systems and is typically implemented electromagnetically. The coil is wound on a former of conductive material - a ''damping ring'' - which behaves as a short circuited turn. As the coil moves, the currents generated in the damping ring produce a force opposing the movement. This force is proportional to the velocity of the moving coil, so resists rapid movements without friction and without impeding slower, controlled motion.

This solenoid is an M380 "Super Stroke" solenoid from Geeplus. By modifying the geometry of the solenoid's pole‐piece and magnetic return path (tubular solenoid), Geeplus engineers have produced an actuator that develops useful force over a very long stroke, while displaying the characteristics of a proportional solenoid.
That means the solenoid develops a force that is proportional to the current being applied.
By using many of the components of the tubular solenoid, the Geeplus super stroke solenoid becomes a very useful, cost‐effective solution for applications that would typically require more expensive long‐stroke actuators or proportional solenoid designs.

This is the popular and versatile BRS1212 bistable rotary solenoid from Geeplus.
Smaller than a dime, the manufacturing process for this tiny solenoid has been enhanced by Geeplus engineers, resulting in cost reductions of up to 50%.
Activated by a momentary pulse in the forward or reverse direction, it will hold in either end position with no power applied. This suits the 1212 to applications operating from battery power.
When used in conjunction with a lightweight shutter blade, thi bistable rotary solenoid is ideal for blocking laser, infrared and other forms of light.
In addition to applications in infrared cameras, instrumentation and laser technology, this bistable rotary solenoid is small enough to fit inside the barrel of a standard lock, and finds use in a number of security applications.
Voice Coil Actuators for Advanced Medical Equipment
Classification: Voice Coil Actuators and Motors
Our voice coil actuators are especially well suited to medical equipment, because they provide a number of important benefits all in one package.
Voice Coil Actuators provide:
• High Controllability
• Very Low Hysteresis
• They're extremely efficient
• A Long Life Cycle
• Proportional AND Bidirectional Control
• High Speed Capability
• And they can be small and lightweight
Voice Coils supply precise positioning combined with exceptionally smooth movement, along with a very low level of hysteresis--as low as 10 mN. Voice coil actuators work very well at extremely high AND low speeds and are also controllable in either direction, as opposed to say, a proportional solenoid that's either energized or not.

Leadscrew Actuators produce linear movement from the rotation of a rotary motor. They are used in a variety of applications, including position adjustment of hospital beds and furniture, machine tool actuation, valve actuation, and others.
Leadscrew actuators are based on a threaded rod and matching nut. One of these two elements is turned by a motor, either mounted directly to the motor shaft, or coupled by gears, belt, or other mechanism.
The other element is attached to the component to be moved, which in the case of the demonstration setup in this video, is a 110 pound load below the table. The relative rotation of the two elements causes a linear movement along the axis.

What is a Bistable Rotary Solenoid? https://www.geeplus.com/rotary-soleno...
To achieve 3 position rotary actuation as shown in the simple demonstration setup here, we implement a versatile bistable rotary solenoid.
Because these solenoids require NO power to hold in either end position and need only a short pulse to drive from end to end, they're designed to absolutely minimize energy consumption and dissipation.
This makes bistable rotary solenoids, in this case, the BRS6045G from Geeplus, very well suited to paper transportation and sorting systems: Like ATM machines and mail sorting systems for example.
