TABLE OF CONTENTS Chapters 5 and 6 contain articles by 40 different authors who documented their experiences in decision-making. The editor encouraged them to use illustrations in each article. These illustrations help the reader understand what the designer thought, how his mind process went, and the results of "decision-making."
Chapter 5 describes decisions made in the manufacturing field, Chapter 6 those about individuals and corporate directions. Section 5.1 introduces decisions in technology development, 5.2 those in technology management. The articles in each section are classified into the following categories:
"Thinking" articles are creations that originated from past thinking or accepting new ideas.
"Development" articles describe the successful commercialization of new products.
"Practice" articles are those that may not be as big as development articles, but describe good ideas that led to new products.
"Modification" articles describe creation by modifying existing technology.
"Research" articles are pursuits of future dreams by challenging new undeveloped technology.
The classification of articles in Section 5.2 is as follows:
"System Introduction" articles are about introducing new CAD/CAM technology to the business.
"Technology Introduction" articles are about importing foreign technology.
"Practical Solution" articles are about samples of starting from technology development to reach practical implementations.
The articles in this chapter are written with the author as the first person. By rewalking the paths the authors passed along, the reader will gain a good understanding of what decision-making means in manufacturing.
