ISO 9001:2000 Audit Procedures, Second Edition

Within ISO 9001:2000 there are over 270 separate requirements of management. Some of these are comparatively minor, whilst others are extremely important and are aimed specifically at top management (i.e. managing director and functional heads, etc.) and which require them to:
fully endorse (and be committed to) the development and implementation of their organisation's quality system;
develop and establish a quality policy that can be supported by measurable quality objectives;
plan, develop, implement, improve and modify their quality management system;
define and communicate organisational responsibilities and authorities;
appoint a management representative as the quality manager to oversee the quality management system;
establish (and use) internal communication processes;
review the quality management system at planned intervals.
There are 21 specific ISO 9001:2000 requirements of top management and these are described in Section 3.4.1 below. The remaining requirements of general management are described in Section 3.4.2.
