Skills Development for Engineers: An Innovative Model for Advanced Learning in the Workplace

Chapter 5: Communicating the Information

Overview

In previous chapters we have discussed an approach by which engineering management can create a framework encouraging advanced and continuous learning in the workplace. The creation of a learning matrix providing a listing of subjects and recommended proficiencies for each engineering position was presented in Chapter 3. In Chapter 4 some specific techniques for advanced learning were described, and paragraph or bullet point recommendations for how to develop advanced proficiencies were demonstrated.

Based on the work of Chapters 3 and 4 the company will now have a series of learning matrices similar to that shown in Table 3.2, and a write-up or outline of expectations and recommended proficiency development methods for each subject listed on any of the matrices.
