This section deals with three important issues for strategic change valuation. The first issue is how to forecast ROI. Forecasting ROI is touched on in several parts in this book, and its importance as an evaluation tool warrants its own chapter. Forecasting ROI is gaining increased favor with change practitioners and business leaders are coming to expect this information in order to make decisions about proceeding with change initiatives. Change initiatives are being evaluated as a potential investment like any other business investment. The playing field is being leveled, and this chapter shows how to play the ROI game.

The second issue is how best to use surveys to collect ROI data. Virtually every ROI evaluation will employ some type of survey. Surveys allow a great deal of data to be collected in a timely and efficient way. This chapter deals with how to best use surveys to collect data about initiative benefits and, in particular, how to use surveys to isolate the effects of the initiative.

The third topic deals with ROI "on the fly," or how to conduct a post-initiative evaluation after pretty much ignoring evaluation through-out the entire implementation of the initiative.
