Now we come to the part you ve all been waiting for: encoding. All your preparation of theaudio or video file will now pay off with a high-quality encoded file that will reflect the highquality of your original work. We ll take you step-by-step through the encoding process for each ofthe four major vendors: RealNetworks, Microsoft, Apple, and Macromedia.
If you haven t done so already, download and install the free RealNetworks RealProducer Basicand the Microsoft Windows Media Encoder. You will need to purchase an Apple QuickTime Pro licenseto encode with the QuickTime Player. You can encode for Macromedia Flash MX with the evaluationversion of Flash MX. You might want to review the basic encoding procedures in Chapter 1 as well. We llassume you have a .wav file and/or an .avi file asyour source file.
All of the major encoders let you add title, author, copyright, and description informationto the encoded file. This is an obvious feature, but often overlooked. The title, author, andcopyright information usually appears in the media player as it s playing, giving users crucialinformation. Keyword and description data may also help you identify and index files later,especially if you encode large amounts of material.
Open RealProducer Basic.
Make sure the Input File radio button is selected.
Click the Browse button.
Highlight the file you wish to encode and click Open.
Click the Audiences button.
