Access point: is a stationary device on an 802.11 wireless network. The access point receives and retransmits data, extending the range of wireless computers on the network. Access points can also connect to an Ethernet network, linking wireless computers to other computers connected with cables.
Analog terminal adapters: convert the signals from a regular analog phone into a stream of VoIP packets on an Ethernet interface.
Authentication: is the process of determining that someone trying to access resources on a network has permission to do so. Usually you use a login name and password to control access to network resources.
Codelet: is the term we use to describe code Intel has developed to serve as an example on how to use a particular Intel IXP400 software component.
Execute in place: is the direct execution of kernel images stored in flash.
Fence memory operations: guarantee all memory operations issued prior to the fence execute before any memory operations issued after the fence.
Firewall: protects the network devices inside the home or small-office from external Internet attacks. It detects attacks by analyzing incoming packets and filtering the offending packets.
Flash Memory: provides nonvolatile storage for the boot loaders, operating systems, and configuration details.
Gateways: are networking products that are typically deployed as the demarcation point between a private local area network (LAN) and the public wide area network (WAN). A residential or small office, home office (SOHO) gateway typically contains router and firewall functionality.
