The Pocket Guide to the Baldrige Award Criteria, Eleventh Edition

This important category of the criteria asks about how you complete your work. It asks about how you manage, control, and improve all of the key work processes in the organization. The category breaks down into two items that both ask for the exact same information. Item 6.1, with a confusing title of Value Creation Processes asks about processes affecting your core business or mission. Processes such as production, distribution, R&D, and sales are covered here. 6.2 asks about processes in support departments that are found in just about all organizations like finance, procurement, and facilities.
Describe how your organization identifies and manages its key process for creating customer value and achieving business success and growth.
This item asks how you design, manage, and improve the key work processes that are part of your organization s mission. If you are an airline, flying the plane; if you are a restaurant, cooking the food; etc. What is important in all organizations is that there is consistency in the way work is done this requires documentation, measures, standards, and controls. In this item, you must explain your organization s approach for ensuring consistency in your work. This item also asks how you identify opportunities for improving your key work processes. Ideas might come from research, employee suggestions, new technologies, or from customers. Explain what processes have been improved, and what benefits have been received from these improvements.
