Division 2: Building Systems Chapter 1: Introduction

1.1 General

Building systems include the structural elements making up the building and its interior layout. P.E. exam topics pertaining to building systems include structural fire resistance, fire barriers, opening protection, construction materials, building use, smoke management, means of egress and exit requirements. Chapters 2 through 4 address building structural characteristics. Chapters 5 through 8 address life safety issues related to building layout.
