August Lemmond, Tyre Performance Engineer at Wayne Taylor Racing discusses the benefits of measuring trace moisture in racing car tyres to improve overall efficiency and identify potential moisture issues before they impact performance, such as loss of grip and handling. Using the SDHmini hygrometer for fast, reliable and accurate readings with its unique desiccant head assembly, keeps the sensor dry for fast, reliable readings and uninterrupted use trackside.
For accurate, repeatable measurements of moisture, Wayne Taylor Racing (WTR) use the SHAW SDHmini handheld hygrometer, ensuring uninterrupted use trackside and in the field.
Shaw Moisture Meters designed the SADP portable dewpoint meter for spot check readings and/or continuous use. Obtain results in a few minutes when taking a spot check reading. The unique design of the measuring head of the dewpoint meter keeps the sensor dry when the instrument is not in use. This is due to the unique desiccant head assembly, SHAW sensor and AutoCal function, making spot check readings a simple and speedy process with minimum air or gas usage.
Designed specifically for the SADP, the SU3 sample system is a popular choice when the user requires a simple dewpoint sampling solution. It comprises a: filter unit, pressure regulator (200 bar), flow meter and pressure gauge mounted on a sample plate. Attaching the sample system to the dewpoint meter creates a portable sample system for spot check readings.
This video tutorial explains how to take a spot check reading with the SADP dewpoint meter and attached SU3 sample system.
The SADP portable dewpoint meter includes three key features which are unique to Shaw Moisture Meters: the dewpoint sensor, desiccant dry down technology and the integrated AutoCal function. This combination maintains the good working order of your dewpoint meter between laboratory calibrations.
AutoCal (automatic calibration) of SHAW dewpoint instruments allows users to ensure accuracy between laboratory calibrations by checking the span of the hygrometer and correcting for any deviation. Perform AutoCal in-situ, without the need for any special equipment or skilled personnel and reduce downtime, minimise calibration costs and gain immediate verification of the dewpoint system. AutoCal should not replace a full laboratory calibration against a know reference standard. However, it is good practice to incorporate it into your routine maintenance every 2-3 months.
