Off-line maintenance
Two off-line maintenance utilities for the Information Store are provided with Exchange. These are:
? ISINTEG: the Information Store Integrity Checker
? ESEUTIL: the Exchange database utility
The executables for ISINTEG and ESEUTIL can be found in the EXCHSRVR\BIN directory. Both are command line utilities run in a DOS (command) box, with an extremely minimal interface. The Information Store service (and any associated services such as the Internet Mail service) must be stopped before either program is run. Further details of how to employ ESEUTIL and ISINTEG can be found in chapter 17 of the Exchange Administrator?s Guide. Documentation for both utilities can be also be found in the \server\support\utils directory on the Exchange Server CD.
ISINTEG?The integrity checker
ISINTEG is designed to find and remove errors from the databases used for the Public and Private Information Stores. ISINTEG can test and fix a database, or just patch its contents.
In test mode a database is scanned carefully to determine whether any errors exist. Potential errors include incorrect reference counts for an object, table errors, or the discovery of objects that are not referenced anywhere within the store. The errors found in test mode can be fixed by ISINTEG as they are discovered. All errors are reported to a log file. ISINTEG is used in patch mode to repair an Information Store if it will not start up after being restored, for example, after a disk failure.
