Introduction
Conducting a pilot will be easier for some companies than others, and everyone will find that different aspects of the Exchange server (or clients) and its interoperability with various components of already installed systems have to be covered.
The easiest pilots will be those for sites who already have a Microsoft Mail network up and running. Exchange server is the natural and evolutionary path for Microsoft Mail installations and anyone who is operating this mail system should look at Exchange with a very serious eye to a quick introduction to production status. Exchange addresses the majority if not all of the architectural weaknesses of the technology embodied in the Microsoft Mail Post Office and provides a great deal of new functionality at the same time. In addition, Exchange allows you to connect Microsoft Mail clients with the new server fairly easily so users don't have to be retrained when the new server is initially introduced. Finally, the migration wizards that are available for Microsoft Mail are much more developed and functional than the equivalents for any other mail system. The wizards enable Microsoft Mail users to migrate all their messages to Exchange private folders with ease. The fact that the migration wizards for Microsoft Mail are so good isn't altogether surprising but is welcome as it eliminates much of the pain otherwise felt at the user level during any migration process.
