Managing the Public Information Store
Users who have been granted permission to create, write to or edit information held in public folders control the contents of the Public Information Store, the repository for all public folders on a server. Public folders are always created in the Public Information Store on the home server of the user mailbox who creates the new folder.
Issues to consider in planning public folders
Amongst the issues to consider when planning the implementation of the Public Information Store you should:
? Pay attention to the information that?s being placed into public folders. Public folders should not be used as a dumping ground for all and sundry.
? Restrict the permission to create top level folders in the public folder hierarchy to a limited group of users. It?s a recipe for confused storage if everyone is allowed to create folders at the top of the hierarchy. Top level folders represent the entry point to the public folder hierarchy so it?s essential that a well-designed structure be instituted at this point. Users who have the permission to create top level folders are able to allocate permissions on the folders they create. In this respect, users with permissions to create top level folders can be regarded as guardians or administrators of the Public Information Store.
