Description

Gauge pressure sensor chips are devices that sense changes in pressure relative to the ambient atmospheric pressure. They are designed to provide an electrical output that corresponds to the pressure differential between the measured pressure and the surrounding atmospheric pressure.

Working Principle

Gauge pressure sensors operate by measuring the pressure difference between the process side and the ambient atmospheric pressure. Typically, these sensors contain a single pressure port on the process side, while ambient pressure is applied to the back of the sensing element via a vent. The sensing element, often a silicon diaphragm, deflects in response to the applied pressure differential. This deflection is converted into an electrical signal, which is then processed to provide a pressure reading. Gauge pressure sensors are useful because they allow for accurate pressure measurements in systems where atmospheric pressure changes can influence the process, such as in vented tanks or open systems.
