Background Motor Simulation Performance prediction of fans with triac-based speed controllers is a complex matter because transient and chopped waveforms of voltage and current generated by the triac results in degraded motor performance. Several researchers have developed prediction models that required estimation of equivalent circuit parameters from laboratory tests. The steady state performance of triac- controlled PSC motors was obtained by Novotny and Fath (1968) using space-techniques and numerical analysis.
