3.15   XDLC

Similar to other data protocols, the high-level data link control (HDLC) is a frame-based
protocol. The basic HDLC frame consists of a starting flag (8 bits), address
field (8 bits), control field (8 or 16 bits), the data field, the FCS (16 or 32 bits) and
the end flag (8 bits) (Figure 3.26).

The HDLC frame may contain other protocol frames; some of these are shown in
Table 3.2.
