Remediation is necessary when a flaw is not acceptable in its current condition, the remaining life is minimal or uncertain, or the state-of-the-art assessment is not sufficient to predict the behavior of the flaw. API 579 covers remediation methods in each part (section). Remediation methods can consist of grinding out cracks on the weld overlay or welding on sleeves or pads. Some other examples follow:
