As a general rule, we should be able to repeat all FFS analyses without consulting the original analyst. This requires good record keeping and accurate description of all assumptions. Such assumptions would be the boundary conditions used to model a component using finite element (FE), as the next analyst may use a different FE software package. It is highly preferable to make all documentation electronic. Level 1 and Level 2 assessments are best recorded on spreadsheets. Cracks are difficult using spreadsheets, so defining the critical parameters is essential. It is the responsibility of the owner to document all FFS assessments. This is critical if RBI assessments are going to be performed.
