Programming Industrial Control Systems Using IEC 1131-3, Revised Edition

3.8: Initial values of elementary data types

3.8 Initial values of elementary data types

An important principle in the IEC standard is that all variables have a known initial value. By default all variables are initialised to zero or in the case of strings to an empty null string. Dates default to the value of D#0001 01 01.

We will see that these default initial values can be overridden when a variable of a particular data type is declared.
