Part Overview

Note

Throughout this part of the book a number of requirements relating to the spacing and scantlings of various structural members are given. These were taken from Lloyds Register Rules at the time of writing and were introduced only to give the student an idea of the variation in dimensions and scantlings found within the ship structure. Other classification society requirements may differ, but basically the overall structure would have the same characteristics. It should be borne in mind that owner's additional requirements and the naure of a particular trade can result in ships having greater scantlings and additional strengthening to the minimum indicated in the following chapters.
