Telecommunications Quality of Service Management: From Legacy to Emerging Services

This section addresses the main QoS issues for legacy and emerging networks, and services. On the legacy network, the basic telephony QoS issues are identified together with guidelines on its management. After a brief description of the Internet architecture, the QoS issues of real-time (e.g. Voice over IP) and non-real-time applications (e.g. e-mail and some e-commerce) are addressed. Mobile and satellite communication systems are included in identifying their unique QoS issues. The principles of addressing QoS issues in this section may be applied to any service in telecommunications.
