Secure Virtual Workspace

One problem that a lot of administrators have difficulty solving is how to provide external access to corporate resources without exposing those resources to compromise. Whether it be by regulation, corporate security policy, or just administrative preference to not allow unprotected access to corporate resources externally, it is a problem administrators have had to deal with. For instance, the IVE allows you to configure file shares which can be accessible through the Web interface. The problem with this is that although it does provide your users with access to the files, they can download them to their local machines. This is particularly a concern if the machines which these files are downloaded to are not corporate controlled assets. So, how can you provide security for your intellectual property without completely shutting down external access? The answer is a wonderful feature of the IVE, called Secure Virtual Workspace.

Secure Virtual Workspace (SVW) essentially creates a virtual environment which looks just like the standard desktop for users to work in. SVW is much more than just another desktop, however. It not only allows you to control what the user can access on the local machine (e.g., network shares, Flash drives, printers, etc.), but it also allows for users to work on documents in a protected environment. This allows you, the administrator, to grant remote access to corporate resources with the knowledge that the documents will be secured on the local machine.
