Chapter 18: Demystifying Dimensioning Tabs
Overview
In the last chapter, I took a general look at the overhauled Dimension Style dialog box, as well as the awesome qdim command. Here, I unravel the mysteries of the dimension variable settings, starting with the tabs in the Dimension Style dialog box.
Gone are the days when you were forced to remember the convoluted dimension variables, although many users still find it simpler to key in dimvar directly. Now you can visually make changes within a dialog. Even so, there are so many tabs and options that it takes a real investment in time to set up your dimensioning to suit your individual needs.
To follow along, simply key in ddim. (The Dimension Style dialog box is also accessible via the dimstyle command. dimstyle is the preferred command, but I'm just used to ddim.) You can also find the Dimension Style dialog box located in the Dimension pull-down menu under Style. Now select Modify to view the different tabs for setting up your dimensions, and I'll step through the tabs one at a time.
Tab 1: Lines and Arrows
The Lines and Arrows tab is broken up into four different sections: Dimension Lines, Extension Lines, Arrowheads, and Center Marks for Circles (Figure 18.1).
