Managing Microsoft's Remote Installation Services: A Practical Guide

Sometimes it's required to move the RIS images from one volume to a different volume. Maybe the volume is running out of space, or the disk is beginning to contain bad blocks, or maybe the RIS volume is moved to a SAN.
To move the RIS images from one location to a new location, the target volume must be formatted with NTFS and must at least have the same space available as the source volume. The method to move RIS images from one volume to a different volume does not require new images to be installed and does not require any reboots.
Follow these simple steps to move between different volumes:
Stop the following services:
Remote Installation Services (BINLSRV) (in Windows 2000, this is called BINL services)
Trivial FTP Daemon (TFTPD)
