A

ActiveX control

ActiveX is a model for writing programs so that other programs and the operating system can call them. With ActiveX controls, the functionality of Internet Explorer can be extended.

Apache

Open Source web server that runs on Windows, Macintosh OS X, and most flavors of Linux/Unix.

API (Application Programming Interface)

Programming interfaces that allow access to core functionality by Java, Perl, and Python.

Artifact

Undesired degradation of an image /video /sound, mostly due to too much compression.

Atomic transaction

Atomic transactions on the server are operations that are either done entirely or not at all. This guarantees a consistent set of files on the server. It prevents data loss and corrupt files if the system crashes or there are problems with the connection. Atomic transactions will also be visible to other users only if they are completed.

Batch processing

Performing the same change to several files at once for example, changing their size and file formats.

Boolean operators

AND, OR, NOR, and other operators used to connect terms logically. Important for searching because using these greatly improves the quality of search results for example, find all images that I created last year AND that have the keyword animals .
