Design Chapters Purpose and Structure
1. The purpose of the design chapters is to illustrate how a technical infrastructure design can be developed using business principles for guidance and design principles to capture the key design decisions. It is not their purpose to show a correct design for a particular scenario.
2. During the course of creating the design there are several points where it is acknowledged that had a business principle been available, a design decision might have been resolved more easily. This is what happens on a real project. If a complete set of business principles had been created for the case study in Part I of the book it would have been unrealistic and therefore misleading.
3. Where new business principles are identified they are listed at the beginning of Appendix A .
4. The scope of the case study design can never hope to be as far- reaching or as detailed as would be expected on a real project. The best approach is not to consider it as a definitive design but as a framework from which parts may be removed and other parts added to arrive at a complete design for your project.
5. Appendix B contains a selection of design principles. Appendix A lists additional business principles which may be used as a source of ideas.
