The news groups
The categorization is somewhat chaotic so you have to resort to scanning through all the groups in order to decide where you might find something of relevance. We have included a list of news groups that are circulated globally. We have only included the comp, news, sci, misc, soc, talk and rec groups. The other main group, alt, is considerably less formal. Although some of the groups are very busy and important there are far too many to list here. You will need to explore the alt group online in order to assess the worth of contributing to one of its groups. For a fuller list, see the web pages which accompany this Appendix.
