OVERVIEW

All organizations require people to provide the creativity that builds value. However, the ingredient that provides the focus and discipline to convert knowledge and intellectual capital into value is leadership. This chapter is a necessary component for applying all the tools and measurements to produce effective bottom-line results. Without leadership and the passion of a vision, people and organizations will not become all that they can be.

This chapter brings together the discussion and concepts that represent my vision for this book. I will touch on issues of leadership and teachings of others in concrete ways that will make sense and help to bring together the tools and methodologies into useful and practical application. I needed a reference that provides a good explanation of all the management tools being offered as the best answer and solution to business problems. After conducting research and working with all the different methodologies and concepts, I have reached the conclusion that there is no single best solution.

There is a great deal of confusion in organizations, at all levels, as to how to use the various tools and how to measure results. Company management is frequently confused about what to do. In many situations, those in management think they know what they are doing, when in reality they have no clue. Conducting countless operational assessments, consulting engagements, and sitting in meetings with executives at all organizational levels leaves me with the conclusion that many businesses make money in spite of themselves.
