6 CONCLUSION

The verification tests of high burnup BWR and PWR fuels were summarized in this paper. The PIEs of the BWR and PWR fuel pins irradiated up to 48GWd/t and 53GWd/t, respectively, showed good performance in general. In the power ramp tests of BWR fuels, however, new failure mode has been found. The Advanced Fuel Cycle technologies for FR studied by JNC were outlined. The fuel cycle concepts including oxide, nitride, and metal fuels were under scrutinization together with the FR system concepts. In addition, actinide hydrides as innovative fission fuel are under investigation and have been shown to be promising in terms of some physical properties and irradiation performances.
