Dimensions Not Shown

Prints that have a series of dimensions in line generally have an open space that does not have a dimension such as L in Fig. 5-16. Dimension L is not needed to manufacture the part and should not be calculated. The open space is generally on the right hand side but may be located anywhere along the line. If dimension L is calculated and a tolerance is added, incorrect minimum and maximum dimensions would be established. The proper procedure in manufacturing is to use the data that is shown on the print.
