APPENDIX
The Construction Specifications Institute has created two systems for organizing information for construction projects:
MasterFormat is a layer system based upon 17 divisions.
UniFormat is a mixed letter and number system based upon seven divisions.
US Coast Guard is an adaptation of the MasterFormat, with two added divisions.
These systems are suitable for use as a layer naming system. This appendix reprints the "light" versions of the CSI systems, as well as the full United States Coast Guard layer specification.
The Construction Specifications Institute originally created MasterFormat as a logical way of categorizing construction material; it was never meant for layers. Some CAD users, however, found the 17 divisions useful as a layering system.
