Electromagnetic Band Gap Structures in Antenna Engineering

2.6: Projects

2.6 Projects

Project 2.1 Write a FDTD program with the implementation of the periodic boundary condition (PBC) in (2.47). Use your code to analyze the dielectric slab waveguide and dipole frequency selective surface discussed in this chapter.

Project 2.2 Derive the surface impedance formula of a grounded dielectric slab and compare your results with (2.82). Plot surface impedance curves for different k x values, as illustrated in Fig. 2.23.

Project 2.3 Write a Matlab program based on the ARMA estimator formulas from (2.83) to (2.89). Use your program to process the FDTD data obtained from Project 2.1. Three types of problems should be tested:

  1. Eigen-value problem. For example, extract the eigen-frequencies of a guided wave structure.

  2. Deterministic problem. For example, analyze the dipole frequency selective surfaces.

  3. A hybrid problem. For example, calculate the surface impedance of the grounded slab.
