Feng Shui is one of the tools many companies in the hospitality industry use to attract more guests and keep them coming back.
We recently talked with the CEO of a casino about the psychological effects of differently shaped interior spaces. "Amazing," he said. "We expanded one of our most successful casinos, but people still seem to prefer the old portion more than the new. Now I know why. The new space is shaped differently, and the old space really does feel more comfortable." Casinos, more than most businesses, intuitively apply some of the Feng Shui concepts to create energies that promote the specific feelings and behaviors of optimism and enthusiasm.
Although every room in a hotel has an impact on the guest, each space is not intended to have the same effect. During the initial information-gathering meeting, you will need to ask, "What is the Primary Purpose of your hotel? Is it for families, business executives, long-term stays?" Frequently the basic answer is: "To make the guest feel at home and leave the next day rested and relaxed."
