GPS Receiver

Overview

A GPS receiver is a device that can receive, decode and process GPS satellite signals and the result of the processing can be displayed or sent (interfaced) to other devices. GPS receivers may be capable of static and/or dynamic position measurements.

Static positioning is the process of gathering location information while the user or location-receiving device is at the same relative position as compared to their reference points. Static positioning may take advantage of recording position information over extended time periods allowing for the averaging of biases and errors.

Dynamic positioning is the process of gathering location information while the user or location-receiving device is in motion. Some GPS receivers with limited processing capability may not be able to perform dynamic positioning due to the rapid changes in the received signal or the inability to track the GPS satellites.

Single Frequency GPS Receiver

A single frequency receiver is a device or signal capturing system that can select and receive signals on a single frequency channel during a time period. Single frequency receivers are generally less expensive and less accurate than dual or multiple frequency receivers.

Dual Frequency Receiver

A dual frequency receiver is a device or signal capturing system that can select and simultaneously receive signals on two frequency channels during a time period. A dual frequency code receiver is a device or signal capturing system that can select and simultaneously receive coded signals on two frequency channels during a time period. Dual frequency receivers generally have higher accuracy...
