TABLE OF CONTENTS Position tracking is the process of a continuously receiving position that identifies the location for a device or person. Position tracking services include fleet management, workforce location tracking, automatic vehicle location (AVL), and asset tracking.
Fleet management is the dispatching, routing and tracking of vehicles to provide shipment or other services that involve the transport of materials and people. For example, rental cars can (and some do) use GPS tracking to determine where their cars have traveled to enforce rental agreements and to determine if the users have been exceeding the speed limit (driving recklessly).
Workforce location tracking is the ability of a company or employer to track the location of employees or contractors. Workforce location tracking can be enabled by the GPS receivers that are built into mobile telephones.
Emergency service is the providing of communication services for a need that is unforeseen by the service provider. Emergency service users may be given higher access and call control priority than other users on the communication systems.
Emergency calling is a feature of the landline telephone calling system that provides an emergency dispatcher with the address and number of the telephone when a user initiates a call for help. The E911 system has the capability of indicating the contact information for the local police, fire, and ambulance agencies that are within a customer s calling area. Emergency calling location information is sent to a public safety answering point (PSAP).
