Green BIM : Successful Sustainable Design with Building Information Modeling

I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.

Now that we have explored the concepts behind sustainability and how they can affect a team, we need to investigate how the concepts affect design. We will describe an order of operations that will help any design team achieve a more sustainable result. By thinking about specific issues at the correct time in the project process, you can minimize negative impacts and keep both first cost and operation costs low. Once you understand how to create sustainable solutions through design, you can integrate the power of BIM.
As discussed in Chapter 1, developing sustainable solutions requires an expansion of traditional thinking. It is necessary to include more input parameters and consider a longer period of time while making decisions during the design process. Often as designers, we are asked by peers, clients, or other professionals to break down the process for sustainable design into simple steps that are easier to follow. This is our order of operations, and it is derived from the following common methodology for reducing the energy consumption of buildings:
Understanding climate
Reducing loads
Using free energy
Using efficient systems
We ve expanded on the thinking behind the energy consumption methodology and through our work have developed the following order of operations, which you can...
