Just Enough AutoCAD 2007

Chapter 6: Creating 3D Drawings

Overview

The main feature of AutoCAD 2007 is a completely revamped 3D modeling section. It is now much easier to create 3D shapes of any type from simple boxes and cones to complex curved surfaces. To cover all the 3D modeling features of AutoCAD would require an entire book. This chapter gives you a taste of what can be done, and I hope you ll be able to take some of this information and create your own basic 3D models.

You ll find a mix of tutorials and command descriptions in this chapter. Tutorials walk you through features that you ll use more frequently. Other features that are not as important for new users are described with figures and a less-detailed discussion of their use.

Topics in this chapter include the following:

  • Getting to Know the 3D Modeling Workspace

  • Drawing in 3D Using Solids and Surfaces

  • Changing Your Point of View

  • Creating 3D Forms from 2D Shapes

  • Specifying Exact Distances in 3D Space

  • Controlling the Appearance of Your Model
