The following list describes the steps for preparing and executing a turnaround (TA). Because of the length of time required for many of the activities, they will necessarily overlap and be done concurrently. On the other hand, the list has been prepared in the nominal order of their accomplishment. For instance, the person performing work must be appointed before the work can begin and all work must be identified and planned before a schedule can be assembled.

The process steps provided above briefly describe the individual activities and the general sequence of events in preparing and executing a large turnaround.
Much like the RMP, the TAP has "loops" that involve decision points and steps that return to earlier activities for reprocessing. An example is when the TA is too costly or takes too long.
