Mastering AutoCAD 2007 and AutoCAD LT 2007

In Chapter 18, you learned how to use 3D Solids to create a mechanical part. In this chapter, you'll explore the use of regions and 3D Solids to build architectural 3D models.
You can find a floor plan of Le Corbusier's Villa Savoye in the sample files folder of the CD. Copy the Savoyeplan.dwg file from the Sample folder of the CD to your hard drive before you begin the tutorial section of this chapter.
Topics in this chapter include the following:
Villa Savoye: Modeling a Classic Building
Extruding Walls into the Z Axis
Adding a Floor: Punching Holes in Surfaces
Building the Rooftop Garden
Understanding Surface Intersections
Using 3D Solids for Architectural Models
Creating a 3D Elevation with Solids
Hiding Unwanted Lines in Solids
| ACAD only | LT does not support 3D Solids or the 3D Modeling workspace. |
Villa Savoye is one of my favorite buildings designed by the French architect Le Corbusier. It was designed in the late 1920s and is considered a milestone in modern architectural design. This particular design lends itself quite well to a beginning tutorial on AutoCAD 3D.
I've created an AutoCAD floor plan of this building for this chapter. The floor plan is not an exact representation of Villa Savoye but should offer a close enough approximation for our purposes (my apologies to Le Corbusier!). I've also started the 3D modeling process by creating some of the walls using methods you learned in Chapter...
