PBX Systems for IP Telephony

PBX system pricing is more of an art than a science. Each PBX system model s unique design and proprietary hardware and software elements make it very difficult to develop definitive pricing statements that cover all PBX systems. It is easiest to analyze PBX system pricing by breaking a system down into its basic components: main control cabinet and software, expansion port cabinets, port circuit cards, telephone instruments, cabling, and installation. The information in this appendix can be used as pricing guidelines for customers developing budgets for new system purchases.
The most basic PBX system consists of a single control cabinet/carrier equipped with the minimum number of system and service circuit cards. The basic assembly typically includes switch network elements, such as center stage switch and/or local TDM bus, and a power supply unit. This equipment is sometimes referred to as the basic system assembly. Starter system pricing for a basic system assembly must also include the cost of the generic software program. Common control cabinet pricing directly depends on system port capacity. The greater the maximum system port capacity of the system, the greater the basic assembly prices. Table B-1 presents the likely basic assembly price ranges for several PBX system configurations based on port capacity ranges.
| Basic Assembly Starter Kit | Price Range |
|---|---|
| Small PBX system (<80 stations) | $3,000 $5,000 |
| Intermediate PBX system (80 400 stations) | $5,000 $20,000 |
| Large PBX system (400 1,000 stations) | $20,000 $35,000 |
