8.9 Physical Channels Spreading and Frame Structures (3GPP TS25.215,2002)

8.9.1 Reverse Link Dedicated Physical Data/Control Channels

The frame structure of the reverse link Dedicated Physical Data Channel (DPDCH) and Dedicated Physical Control Channel (DPCCH) has a length of 2560 chips in 10 ms duration and contains 15 time slots. Thus, 15 bursts are continuously transmitted through the reverse link without a guard time. The frame structure is shown in Figure 8.94.

There can be several DPDCH to carry coded and interleaved user data at N data = 10 2 k bits per slot for k= 0, ., 6 and the spreading factor (SF) S F = = 256......... 4. Thus, the maximum and the minimum spreading factors are 256 and 4, respectively, and the maximum transmission speed is 960 kb/s corresponding to minimum spreading factor of 4. The spreading of a DPDCH and DPCCH is shown in Figure 8.95. The DPDCH information is carried over I-branch using spreading code C d and weight factor ? d. The DPCCH is carried over the Q-branch using a spreading code C c and weight factor ? c.

A discontinuous transmission is used in the reverse link, such as with a speech service where no information bits are transmitted during the silent period and only information required for the link maintenance, such as low command rate power...
