Total Productive Maintenance

Team-based maintenance is what companies envision when they hear the term TPM. If the plan presented in this book has been followed, the next step is to evaluate the types of organizational practices presently used.
By this point, the organization should be experiencing World Class results. The organization is dedicated to using a disciplined approach to the work order system. All information is recorded completely and accurately through the work order system. The effective use of the work order system allows for accurate scheduling practices. Underlying the entire structure of the maintenance organization is the attitude of maintenance prevention. The preventive and predictive maintenance programs are in optimum condition. The costs related to PM/PDM are calculated in the scope of the lowest total cost to the company.
These changes show employees that the maintenance improvement program is not just another program of the month. Management's dedication to this program has been proven by the expenditure of the resources needed to accomplish the improvements to date. During the time that has passed to bring the organization to this stage, the employees' attitude has become one of cooperation and understanding.
If, at this time, management begins to transfer basic maintenance tasks such as routine inspections and service, the operations and maintenance groups will cooperate.
