Chapter 32: First Aid

Everyone should invest some time in learning the basics of first-aid. You never know when having skills in first-aid treatments may save your life. Plumbers live what can be a dangerous life. On-the-job injuries are not uncommon. Most injuries are fairly minor, but they often require treatment. Do you know the right way to get a sliver of copper out of your hand? If your helper suffers from an electrical shock when a drill cord goes bad, do you know what to do? Well, many plumbers don t possess good first-aid skills.

Before we get too far into this chapter, there are a few points are want to make. First of all, I m not a medical doctor or any type of trained medical-care person. I ve taken first-aid classes, but I m certainly not an authority on medical issues. The suggestions that I will give you in this chapter are for informational purposes only. This book is not a substitute for first-aid training offered by qualified professionals.

My intent here is to make you aware of some basic first-aid procedures that can make life on the job much easier. But, I want you to understand that I m not advising you to use my advice to administer first-aid. Hopefully, this chapter will show you the types of advantages you can gain from taking first-aid classes.
