Introduction

Welding symbols graphically convey complete information about a weld or braze joint. This is accomplished in a standardized and abbreviated picture format which makes easily used in every country around the world. The complete symbol system is described in ANSI/AWS A2.4, Standard Symbols for Welding, Brazing, and Nondestructive Testing, latest edition, published by American Welding Society. Everything the welder, architect, inspector, engineer, supervisor, foreman and construction superintendent need to know about a weld is described on a welding symbol.
