Chapter 12: Configuring Policies (Group Policies and Citrix Policies)
Introduction
The successful implementation of an efficient, easy to use, and easy to manage Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server farm does not simply rely on a correctly installed terminal server. The associated infrastructure (Active Directory, domain security and network topology) plays an undeniably essential role in supporting users, application access, and performance and reliability all factors that determine whether an MPS 3.0 Server farm is living up to its potential.
To illustrate this point, think about these questions. How do you ensure that confidential documents used by one group of users you support are printed only on the printers at that group s location? How do you ensure that remote users connecting from a hotel s unsecured Internet connection are adequately protected from a hacker snooping around for information? How do you ensure that those same remote users are not passing viruses to your network over the Citrix Web connection from the PC they are using at the local Internet caf ? The answers to these questions can all be supplied via the appropriate application of a combination of Windows group policies and Citrix policies.
The goal of this chapter is to familiarize you with both Windows and Citrix policies and show you how you can configure them to work together to ensure seamless, reliable, and secure access for your users to their applications via their Citrix connections no matter where they are and how they connect.
