Deploying Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 with Windows Terminal Server 2003 Terminal Services

Day-to-day administration of your Citrix servers is probably one of the hardest tasks an administrator has. After all, when things are working smoothly there s an understandable tendency to ignore them. As every administrator knows, however, ignoring your Citrix farm for too long can create a ticking time bomb, and nothing is worse than those 2 a.m. pager alerts that your data store has just gone red. It is important to keep an eye on your farm, and to watch for trends that can predict future issues.
Thankfully, there are plenty of tools available to do the job. If you choose to use the suite of Citrix tools, there is no additional cost beyond your base licensing. This chapter deals with some of the available monitoring tools, and best practices for using them. We also discuss administrative hurdles with files, profiles, and sessions and some common sense advice on maintaining a healthy Citrix environment.
If you have Resource Manger installed as part of your Citrix configuration, you do have some out-of-the-box default monitoring applied to your Citrix servers. These are general metrics that you can further customize for your own needs. You can also configure the alert points for Warning and Critical levels, and provide notification escalation in case of serious issues. To view the default settings and change them:
Open the Management Console and expand your farm.
Expand the Servers folder and highlight the server you want to examine.
