Citrix MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 Initial Farm Planning

Now that we have decided how we are going to install Windows Server 2003, we are almost ready to build our MetaFrame Presentation Server. Before we can drop the CD in the drive to start the installation, though, we need to explore a few concepts surrounding the installation and configuration of Presentation Server. In this section, we will look at the items that exist outside the logical boundary of the farm, exploring the requirements for each. We will then turn our attention to those pieces that exist logically inside the farm. We will then switch gears back to the basics of hardware and software requirements for MetaFrame Presentation Server 3.0 and conclude this section with a dissection of the different methods that exist for installing Presentation Server 3.0.

Let s begin with a definition of what a farm is and how it relates to your Citrix deployment. A farm is a logical grouping of servers for the purposes of management, administration, load balancing, and scalability. There is no practical limit to how large a farm can grow. A farm can consist of a single Citrix Presentation Server 3.0 server or can span continents and contain thousands of servers.
