zero, zero out: The procedure for adjusting a measuring instrument to its proper output value for a zero-measurement signal.
zero a device: To erase all the data stored on a volume and reinitialize the format of the volume.
zero adjuster: A mechanism for repositioning the pointer on an instrument so the instrument reading is zero when the value of the measured quantity is zero.
zero adjustment: See adjustment, zero.
zero-based conformity: See conformity, zero-based.
zero-based linearity: See linearity, zero-based.
zero bias: A positive or negative adjustment to instrument zero so as to cause the measurement to read as desired.
zero code error: A measure of the difference between the ideal (0.5 LSB) and the actual differential analog input level that is required to produce the first positive leastsignificant-bit (LSB) code to transition (00 00 to 00 01).
zero defects: A management program that encourages striving for perfect performance in manufacturing and service operations.
zero elevation: 1. For an elevated-zero range, the amount that the measured variable zero is above the lower range value. Zero elevation may be expressed either in units of the measured variable or in percentage of span. [ANSI/ISA-51.1 1979 (R1993)] 2. Biasing the zero output signal in order to raise the zero to a higher starting point. Zero elevation is often used in the measurement of liquid level to start measurement above the vessel connection point.
