You'll need a wire rated for wet locations (usually a W is in the lettering) if in buried conduit, or a direct burial rated wire if no conduit (Type USE or UF). You'll still need 4 wires, and the neutral can be dropped a size or two (3/0) and the grounding wire need to be at least #2 aluminum .
